Sodium Dodecyl Sulfate (SDS) is the sodium salt of the 12-carbon organosulfate. It is a widely used detergent with applications in molecular biology and protein field. This anionic detergent is highly used in buffer preparation to solubilize cell membrane, inclusion bodies, protein denaturation and in analysis of proteins by SDS-PAGE.
SDS is a highly effective surfactant and is used in any task requiring the removal of oily stains and residues. For this reason, it is including in formulations for cleaning procedures.
